Knock Off: Chiffon Cardi

I am a big fan of Winter Kate Clothing.  I especially love the Ginger Cardigan/Bed Jacket because of the simplicity and versatility of the design.

I believe this Winter Kate Cardigan retailed for about $300.  $300?!  That's a lot of fabric.  I like the jacket in different colors and patterns, and since I like quality AND quantity, I just made my own.  This one cost me $7/yard and used about 1 1/3 yard.  I have a stash of chiffon that I bought recently.  I want to try to make some with different sleeve lengths.

Red Floral Dress is Done!

Yipee!  Finally found some time last night to finish this dress.  The sewing pattern is a pretty simple shift dress pattern, but it took me a while to do this because the fabric (rayon) was pretty hard to work with.  The dress, although it has darts on the sides, is pretty shapeless.  So, I would only wear it with a belt, like so.

Red Floral Shift Dress

I'll be starting this project next week after my daughter's dedication/party.  I would love to be working on this now, but, i'm just way too busy.  I only have one yard of this pretty fabric so i wasn't sure if i had enough fabric for a dress, but, after draping it on miss mannequeen here, i think i have enough for a very simple shift dress for me.... aaah... there is an advantage to being small.

I love the pattern.  It is more of a spring/summer dress, but, with the right accessories, i could still wear it for fall:  dark sweater, black tights and boots, and we are good.

I will either use a simple shift dress pattern or this McCAll's pattern below (red dress F).  If I use a different fabric for the lining, i should have enough fabric for the dress.  We'll see.

...another li'l girl's dress

I had extra fabric from another dress I made, so I just added a skirt to a store-bought tank - a fast and easy project.  I will be adding a blue sash/ribbon around the waist.  I kinda want the aqua blue on the fabric to pop out.

li'l girl's dress

I bought this big floral-patterned fabric from fabric.com.  I used a simple dress pattern from Butterick (See&Sew B5443).  No buttons, no zipper, which is okay since the fabric has some stretch to it.  I then added ruffles to "girlify" it some more.

I bought one yard of this fabric and I only used about 2/3 of it.  I'm using the leftover for another dress.  I'm adding a ruffled skirt to a store-bought tank top.
